Passport?

At 1:30 pm today, I picked up my passport at LBC shipping co. My passport was sent back to me from a certain agent in Manila. I'm supposed to apply for a visa in Canada but unfortunately my application and everything turned out sour and bitter, so I decided to retrieve the application. That agent from Manila, who assured me to do all the paperworks and everything, screwed up. The passport was returned but the money isn't yet. Huh!...

My fave Chocolate Cake

Cake has always been my favorite since I was a child, most specially the luscious chocolate cake. Because of my craziness to cakes, I'd able to learn baking when I was in high school. I first baked chiffon cake, which of course tasted and looked awful. But for a reason of experience, that would be OK..lol... Later, my chiffon cake became perfect with the training of my high-school THE teacher.
Since I got addicted to chocolates, I started baking chocolate cakes then. I have tried this recipe, come take a look at the ingredients and its procedure below:
Ingredients
Mix A- Mix below

1 cup Hershey’s Cocoa
2 cups Boiling wanter
(mix the above till smooth then cool)

Mix B- Mix well in plastic

2 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

- Prepare the rest of the ingredients below
1 cup butter, softened
2 1/2 cups brown sugar
4 pieces eggs
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Procedure
1. Cream butter; add sugar gradually. (Make sure butter is soft when starting to cream). Cream till light and fluffy.
2. At low speed, add eggs, one piece at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Add vanilla.
3. Add Mix B in fourths and Mix A in thirds alternately, ending with Mix B.
4. Bake at 350 F for 25-30 minutes in two or three 9″ round layer pans. Cool 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire rack.
5. Add fudge icing (see recipe below) to the top of one layer then combine the two layers to ice the whole cake.

The Fudge Icing
Ingredients

1 can condensed mik
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup butter

1. Mix milk and cocoa with wire whisk or wooden spoon until smooth. Strain through a wire strainer.
2. Cook mixture in double boiler. Stir occasionally- when thick, remove from fire and add butter thoroughly.
3. Add desired flavor.
4. Use this icing right away. Keep bowl in double boiler to maintain warmth.

Other notes
1. You can decrease the cocoa down to 1/3 cup.
2. Icing starts getting thick when you see thick icing clinging to the sides of the bowl. Continually scrape sides of bowl until icing becomes very thick.
3. Do not over cook or else you will have a fudge candy.

Why don't you try this great recipe so we'll get the same experience, that is, delicious, luscious and mouth-watering cake.. Yummy.....

New Batch of RNs

The nurse licensure examination was held last June 1 and 2 this year and another batch of new registered nurses are named. There are 27,765 pass the nursing board exam or about 43.07% who pass out of 64,459 who took the nursing licensure exam, official result from PRC.

Practically speaking, I welcome another batch of professionals without job! Really, there are a lot of nurses in the Philippines who are unemployed due to superfluous supply of nurses, hmm, including me... The country produce thousands of nursing graduates every year that makes the supply of said nurses overflow. Hence, this resulted to unemployment. For the Rn's to gain hospital experience, many of us are contented to volunteer to most hospitals without having a salary just to get a certificate as proof of evidence that hospital duties are done. This will further guarantee a nurse to be hired soon, locally or internationally.

The reality of a fresh graduate is to land for a job, much better if it is related to the course taken. Hard works were exerted to finish a certain course, specially nursing, plus another extra hard effort utilized to review to pass the board exam, not to mention the financial matters. After all those hectic activities and times spent, securing a job is the top aspiration for the new grads.

Ironically, as most universities and colleges generate more nursing graduates, who eventually will become registered nurses, the chances of acquiring a job are slimmer due to many causes - may it be due to the crisis the country is facing right now, thus, many companies and hospitals are having redundancy, may it be cost-cutting reason, so hiring of additional staffs ceased, and so on and so forth.

Speaking of salary, our (nurses) salary is too little, not enough to feed the family. This is one of the reasons why nurses migrate to another country for a greener pasture. To some newly grads, instead of looking for a job right after graduation, they choose to take international examinations like NCLEX, IELTS, etc., to be qualified to work to foreign country other than our own Philippines.

So to all registered nurses, the new RNs and the old unemployed, may we find our good, if not, the best luck the soonest possible time. Let's not lose hope for their is time for each of us.. Just remember: If there's a will, there's a way..:-)

am I left behind?

This is the cellphone that I am using presently, it's a Nokia E65. It is a slideup phone. Nokia E65 incorporates a long battery life, 3G, quad-band calling, and multiple messaging options into a slim, stylish design with dedicated One Touch keys.

This phone helps me a lot to get connected to my important contacts, and of course to my love ones, specially to my parents who are living somewhere in the Atlantic part. One thing that I like with this N e65 is that its feature as wifi ready. So anytime, any place where there is an internet hotspot, I can readily browse the internet, hassle-free.

With the advent of the latest Apple 3G iPhone, which was just recently launched, many cellphone users, including me, thought that the unit we presently use needs to be changed and updated. Although this iPhone is not yet available in the Philippines, but I'm thinking and considering an idea of having one in the future. I heard this iPhone unit was declared as sold out, but I know the company (Apple) will manufacture more of these for their other consumer who's been dreaming to have this kind of unit to experience the difference.

Prostate Cancer

There are many people, well of course men, are affected by this disease, prostate cancer, all over the world.

Prostate cancer is cancer of the small walnut-shaped gland in males that produces seminal fluid, the fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. This is one of the most common type of cancer in men. A diagnosis of prostate cancer can be scary not only because it can be life-threatening, but also because treatments can cause side effects such as bladder control problems and erectile dysfunction (impotence). But today, the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer have gotten much better.

Prostate cancer usually grows slowly and initially remains confined to the prostate gland, where it may not cause serious harm. While some types of prostate cancer grow slowly and may need minimal or no treatment, other types are aggressive and can spread quickly. If prostate cancer is detected early — when it's still confined to the prostate gland — you have a better chance of successful treatment.

The picture on the left side is my father, Bart. He is one of the million of men affected by prostate cancer. At first, he didn't notice he had the disease. Everything was normal. Until one day, he felt pain and burning on urination. Days past, severe rump pain attacked, he's been chilling and shivering. Everybody got panic and somebody called for assistance. My mother immediately brought him to the nearest hospital, Nassau Community Hospital in Longbeach, New York. In the hospital, he was cared and medicated. Thanks to the dedicated nurses and doctors who took care of my father. He went through series of test: PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test and DRE (digital rectal exam), biopsy and a lot more tests. Finally, the doctor concluded that my father is positive for prostate cancer. Although the cancer is still encapsulated or localized, meaning the cancer cell has not spread beyond the prostate gland, he still need to undergo therapies to treat and eventually kill the cancer cells.

Now, my father is still undergoing his radiation therapy - the External Beam radiation therapy, in which a machine aims high-energy rays at the cancer, at the Nassau Community Hospital. The goal of radiation therapy is to damage the cancer cells and stop their growth or kill them. This works because the rapidly dividing (reproducing) cancer cells are more vulnerable to destruction by the radiation than are the neighboring normal cells. The treatment for my father is about 44 days, so his radiation therapy will be completed on 22nd July this month.

Knowing the diagnosis of my father really shocked and wrecked us, the whole family. But we put all our trusts to God knowing that He has a purpose in everything that happen in our individual life. We know my father can recover from the devastating disease, cancer, by trusting the Lord for his recovery. We believe that prayer can move mountains and everything is possible in God's name.

A Birthday Celebration

My sister, Alodie, just celebrated her birthday this July 9, 2008. The celebration was just simple and was attended by only family members, well including me, and some close neighbors and friends. There were plenty of children around. Two of my mother’s siblings were also there with their family to celebrate.

I arrived in our house around 5:00 in the afternoon. I parked my car near our gate. I could see my sister and her husband, Gigi with two of their children Ann Georgette and Maryse Gwen were already outside the house waiting for me. Sis Alodie waiting for me at the gate. I greeted and kissed her with my gift on my hand. I saw her eyes were smiling, she was just happy that day. We got inside our house and started catching photos. Foods for dinner were prepared at the same time. Dinner was eventually served at around 6:00 in the evening. Everybody was enjoying the meal with letchon de leche, pancit-bihon, ginagmay, nilat-anang karneng baboy, cake, salad, spaghetti, and a lot more.. These foods are actually the Filipino foods we love to prepare on occasions like this..

Despite, we don’t have our parents to celebrate with us on special events and other occasions like this for about eight (8) years now, the simple celebration was ended joyfully. We only wish for good health, happy life with good friends, family and other people around...

WOw!!!

Just created my blog account today, July 10, 2008. I do this for a lot of reasons, to name a few: to tell myself - what's in my mind and to make money at the same time out from blogging. Right now I'm still learning how to make this thing a reality ( the money matters), I am soliciting ideas from anyone who can help or coach me to make this thing materialize.
