Xylitol : Natural Sweetener

One day, I prepared coffee for myself and for my father. I always love to have a sweeter taste, so I put enough sugar in to my cup. I stared at my father and thought if I am going to put sugar in to his cup since he is diabetic. Hmmm, I preferred not to add sugar, thus, he had to bear with the bitter taste of the coffee.

Because my father is diabetic, I surfed over the net to look for some natural sweetener that my father can use. Then, I found this new site about Emerald Forrest and its natural sweetener. Said company produce a natural sweetener called xylitol. This xylitol is a naturally occurring sweetener which is derived from plant sources. Emerald Forest uses corn cobs to extract xylitol.

Furthermore, there are some great benefits if we are going to use this natural sweetener. It is good for our teeth because xylitol is a sugar alcohol, which means that it cannot be metabolized by bacteria in the mouth, thus, preventing dental caries.

More importantly, xylitol is safe for people with diabetes, just like my father. In the glycemic index, the refined sugar scores 100 whereas xylitol scores 7. Therefore, diabetics can safely use xylitol without worrying about any increase in their blood sugar level.

Finally, I am quite excited to start my online shopping now. Are you interested too? For more information, you can visit their web site and start shopping online immediately.

What Are You Thankful For This Year?

Got this tag from Marie. I appreciate for giving me this :)

Here is the tag:

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.
GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troublesand,
they can become your blessings.

Below are the seven (7) reasons to be thankful for this year:

1. My case at RTC Davao City was already promulgated last Nov. 27 this year. Thanks to Judge Fuentes. The accused is sentenced to a minimum of 11 years imprisonement, 6 months, and 15 days to 19 years, 6 months, and 20 days.

2. My father is cured from his cancer after several days of radiation therapy. The radiation was completed last July this year.

3. My father's MedicAid was approved.

4. Thanks to all who hated me so much all through this year.. You guys made me stronger than ever!

5. Thanks to all my loyal friends.. We made the friendship grow deeper.

6. Thanks to my family. We've been clinging together despite hard times in our life.

7. Thanks for the failures in life I have experienced. Failures broaden my mind and my faith in God grow deeper and stronger. It gives me the courage to hang on and endure the crooked journey of life..

Now, I am passing this tag to: Azlina, BestFriends, Cookie's Corner, Badet, JK and Nancy

iLASIK: The Generation i Procedure

Reading is part of our daily life. Many of us love to read any informative materials such as books, magazines, novels and the like. Hence, it is important to read so one can follow certain instructions, directions, or just be informed to some important things in life.

Having good eyesight is one criterion to maintain optimum reading ability. In this connection, there is a latest LASIK Technology in the market today which corrects eye problems. So now you may ask what this
LASIK technology is all about.

Well, the modern LASIK, known as the iLASIK Procedure uses two lasers. Unlike the previous earlier versions of the procedure which uses only one laser.

The first two lasers used in the iLASIK Procedure is the wave-front technology that maps the unique characteristics of the individual’s eyes. Then, the second, the ultra fast, computer-guided laser that creates a corneal flap. Remember, there are no more blades that are used in this new procedure. The combination of these advanced laser technologies clinically prove that it provide an excellent safety and visual results.

Consequently, the NASA and the U.S. military has already been using this kind of painless and safe eye procedure. Many of their personnel have improved their vision after having the procedure, and now have 20/20 vision. These groups would also recommend the surgery to their other colleagues.

How about you, are you also interested to experience painless eye surgery? For more LASIK information, visit their site.

A Gloomy Day

What a gloomy day!. I woke up early for my class. I lazily did my morning routine primarily because of the weather condition. It really affects my move. From dawn up to this time while I am writing this article, the rain never stop. Hmm, the weather caused me delays in so many things. But, I am still thankful because all my activities for the day were all done.

my new nikon still camera

Just this afternoon at around 3:30 PM, I picked up a small package from Johnny Air Cargo. This was sent to me by my mother. Its content is just a small camera. A Nikon still camera - to be exact, with complete accessories. What's so nice with this gadget is its pixel which is 8 megapixel. Aside from that, it has also a wider screen, 2.8 inch LCD. Oh, my mother also included an SD card of 2 gig. I always like my both parents because when they give something, they always make sure that it is complete with all accessories so that I can readily use the thing when I receive it.. Thanks!

The 10 Lifestyle Tips For Cancer Prevention

The WebMD cited these 10 diet and activity recommendations highlighted during the meeting of the American Diabetic Association (ADA). The following are:
1. Be as lean as possible without becoming underweight. Check your waist. It is recommended that men's waists be no larger than 37 inches and women's waists be 31.5 inches or less.

2. Be physically active for at least 30 minutes every day.

3. Avoid sugary drinks, and limit consumption of high-calorie foods, especially those low in fiber and rich in fat or added sugar. It is suggested to fill up on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

4. Eat more of a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes (such as beans).

5. Limit consumption of red meats (including beef, pork, and lamb) and avoid processed meats.
6. If you drink alcohol, limit your daily intake to two drinks for men and one drink for women.

7. Limit consumption of salty foods and food processed with salt (sodium). Don't go over 2,400 milligrams per day, and use herbs and spices instead. Additionally, processed foods account for most sodium intake nowadays -- not salt you add when cooking or eating.

8. Don't use supplements to try to protect against cancer. It's not that supplements are bad -- they may be "valuable" apart from cancer prevention, but there isn't evidence that they protect against cancer, except for vitamin D (according to K. Collins).

9. It's best for mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for up to six months and then add other liquids and foods.

10. After treatment, cancer survivors should follow the recommendations for cancer prevention. Survivors include people undergoing cancer treatment, as well as people who have finished their cancer treatment.
These tips are about reducing -- but not eliminating -- cancer risk. Many factors, including genes and environmental factors, affect cancer risk; diet and exercise aren't the whole story, but they're within your power to change.

Report Phone Numbers

One day, my mother, now in New York, called me up to ask if I was calling her for any emergency reason. I told her that I did not call her for any reason. Then she said that a certain number, not from her phonebook, kept on calling her three times that day. But every time she answers the phone, nobody answers on the other line. So I told her that whatever is the intention of that harrasing caller report to this site, www.reportphonenumbers.com. I said that on that site, you will be able to give the number of the harrasing caller, search the caller, and even give or post your opinions relevant to the caller.

How about you? Are you also a victim of unknown and annoying phone calls? Visit Report Phone Numbers site so you can trace who your caller is. Who knows that your caller might be from an insurance company, maybe just a wrong number, from a debt collector, or just from a phone survey company.

Things Are Not Always What They Seem

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.
The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the angels were given a small space in the cold basement.

As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.

When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied, "Things aren't always what they seem."

The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.

After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.

When the sun came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears.

Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.

The younger angel was infuriated and asked the older angel how could you have let this happen?

The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused.

The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let the cow die.

"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied.

"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.

Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it."

"Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the angel of death came for his wife. I gave him the cow instead.

"Things aren't always what they seem."

Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every out come is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until some time later...

Some people
come into our lives
and quickly go
Some people
become friends
and stay awhile
leaving beautiful
footprints on our
hearts
and we are
never
quite the same
because we have made a good
friend!!

Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!
I think this is special...live and savor every moment...
This is not a dress rehearsal!

TAKE THIS LITTLE ANGEL
AND KEEP HER CLOSE TO YOU
SHE IS YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
SENT TO WATCH OVER YOU....

Dedis' 18th Bday

Marian Grace de los Reyes Celeste. She is my second niece of four. We simply call her "dedis". Today marks a new world for dedis because she celebrates her 18th birthday.

Dedis likes barbie dolls, disney characters, and many more. We look forward that dedis will start thinking maturely and release all the childish thoughts behind, as she turns 18. The whole event/party is dedicated to her Lolo Bart and Lola Vicky, who sponsor all the expenses. The efforts of her parents are also recognized - her Mama Alodie and Papa Gigi, and to her four siblings: Giging, Wenwen, and An-an..

Wish you all the best dedis as you grow beautifully. Gudluck and GodBless for your life ahead..

Mama's special day

Today, 17th October, is my mother's birthday. I just reminisce the good and bad times we spent together all through this time, and oh, it's quite meaningful.
Although we don't see our mother personally, since we're miles away, we still celebrate her birthday the usual filipino way, ie., we prepared cake (blown by my nieces in the absence of my mother), pancit, adobo, suman, nilagang karneng baboy, etc. A phone call from our mother completes the celebration.
For our dear Mama, happy birthday! Wish you good health, sound heart and mind and bountiful blessings... GodBless.

A good spot to spend a holiday

Panama, a republic in Central America. The Panama City was founded in 1519 by Spaniards. It is the capital and largest city and is situated on the Pacific coast in the central zone. The population is of mixed Spanish, black, and Native American descent, but includes indigenous people and immigrants from various parts of the world. About 70% of Panamanians are mestizos – people of mixed European and Native American descent, or mulattoes – those of European and African heritage.

Spanish is the official language of Panama. This is spoken by all but a few Native Americans. Part of the population, about a quarter speaks English – the language of the West Indian minority and the international business community.

70% of Panamanians are Catholic and Protestant account for 12% of the people. Religious faith and practice does not create conflict in Panama, instead, it guarantees freedom of worship.

The biggest festivities in Panama occur at Christmas. Other important holidays include independence day November 3 and Firemen’s Day of May 5. When it comes to food, the typical meals include sancocho – this is a chicken soup with native cereals and tubers, tamales – made with mashed corn, plantains, and native fruits. Their meals also include rice, beans, boiled meat, potatoes, and fried bananas.

Hotel-view01-old

Looking back the history - the people, the language, religion, and way Panamanians celebrate holidays, is great. There are still a lot of things to discover about Panama. Hence, this is the reason why it good to spend a holiday in Panama to unveil its rich culture and heritage. There are also a lot of attractions such as the Panama Canal, Islands and Beaches, Historical sites, and many more. For one who is interested in sports and other leisure activities, you may engage to diving and snorkeling or rafting and tubing just to name a few.

Staying or settling in Panama is not a problem. The restored Hotel Casco Antiguo is a fine place to stay while in Panama. The Hotel Casco Antiguo is the city’s oldest operating hotel. It has authentic Andalusian details, a full modern amenities, and prime location at the heart of UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hotel Casco Antiguo is a 5-Star condominium-hotel. It has 34 rooms with in-house concierge services. Said condo-hotel is seemly famous to invest nowadays.

Hurry, invest now while suites are still available.

One Coin

strong coffee and sweet chocolate

Sometime last September, I was in Manila for a certain appointment. On my way back to my home, I dropped by to this coffee shop for a sip of coffee while waiting for my plane. I ordered just a cup of coffee and two different slices of chocolate cakes: Double Chocolate Walnut brownie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar.

Double Chocolate Wlanut brownie.........Chocolate Peanut Butter bar

While having coffee and some cakes

Hmm, the coffee is great! and the chocolates taste delicious!... Minutes passed, as I was about to finish taking my coffee and mucnhing the cakes, I feel something bad.. Gosh, I got an awful headache.. I wonder what causes the terrible ache, does it because of the caffeine, which both chocolate and coffee have it, or maybe I was just anxious of my whole day activities....

Forgive and be forgiven…

On our day-to-day life, we do the basics – that is, meeting our physiological needs such as breathing, elimination, even sex.. As part of our daily activities, we sometimes, if not often, commit mistakes. The church call it “sin” – may it be big or small.

Since we are human and we are not perfect, and committing sin sometimes is inevitable, I always remind myself to a bible verse from 2Corinthians, chapter 2, verse 7-8 which states that “When people sin, you should forgive and comfort them, so they won’t give up in despair. You should make them sure of your love for them”. As always preach, God will be happy for us if we know how to forgive those who have sinned to us. If we can forgive others, hence, others will also forgive us on our trespasses.

Interested to know more about Bible verses?
Find out more by attending the first annual Theatre Church Conference, by CineMeetings & Events, a division of National CineMedia. The event will be on October 22-23, 2008 in Silver Spring, MD. Find out more who are the participants of this big event.

Let’s dive in to the Snapbomb

7 anti-aging super foods

Read on to find out more about the 7 foods to keep you young:

1. Chocolate, from cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels, thus, slows the rate of heart disease. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.

2. Blueberries : Research found that some compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function.

3. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms.

4. Nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats, so they offer benefits similar to those associated with olive oil. They’re also concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals, including antioxidants.

5. Wine - Drinking alcohol in moderation protects against heart disease, diabetes and age-related memory loss. Any kind of alcoholic beverage seems to provide such benefits, but red wine has been the focus of much of the research. Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that likely contributes to its benefits-and, according to animal studies, may activate genes that slow cellular aging.

6. Olive oil - Four decades ago, researchers from the Seven Countries Study concluded that the monounsaturated fats in olive oil were largely responsible for the low rates of heart disease and cancer on the Greek island of Crete. Now we know that olive oil also contains polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may help prevent age-related diseases.

7. Yogurt - In the 1970s, Soviet Georgia was rumored to have more centenarians per capita than any other country. Reports at the time claimed that the secret of their long lives was yogurt, a food ubiquitous in their diets. While the age-defying powers of yogurt never have been proved directly, yogurt is rich in calcium, which helps stave off osteoporosis and contains “good bacteria” that help maintain gut health and diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Feast Day
September 8th

The Feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary has been celebrated in the Church at least since the 8th Century. The Church's calendar observes the birthdays of only two saints: Saint John the Baptist (June 24), and Mary, Mother of Jesus.

John the Baptist is considered especially sanctified even before his birth. His birth to Elizabeth and Zachariah is foretold in the first chapter of Luke, and it is also recorded (Lk 1:41) that Elizabeth felt the infant John "leap in her womb" when Mary approached her soon after the Annunciation.

The birth of Mary was also miraculous. She was conceived without sin as a special grace because God had selected her to become the mother of His Son (the feast of her Immaculate Conception is celebrated on December 8). The dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, though generally believed throughout the Church for many centuries, was formally declared by Pope Pius IX in 1854.

There is nothing contained in Scripture about the birth of Mary or her parentage, though Joseph's lineage is given in the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. The names of Mary's parents, Joachim and Anna, appear in the apocryphal "Gospel of James", a book dating from the 2nd Century AD, not part of the authentic canon of Scripture. According to this account, Joachim and Anna were also beyond the years of child-bearing, but prayed and fasted that God would grant their desire for a child.

According to one tradition, the house in which Mary was born in Nazareth is the same one in which the Annunciation took place. By another tradition, the Annunciation site is beneath the Crusader church of Saint Anna in Jerusalem, under a 3rd Century oratory known as the "Gate of Mary".

In celebrating the nativity of Mary, Christians anticipate the Incarnation and birth of her Divine Son, and give honor to the mother of Our Lord and Savior.
